Message from Gene Williams, President
As
cattlemen in Northwest Georgia, we saw the need for a local cattle auction
in 1995. Our goal was to provide a modern facility where local
cattlemen could get a premium price for their cattle. It was our
desire to operate the business in a professional manner. We strive
to ensure fair and equal treatment to all of our customers.
To begin with in
1986, we leased a barn in Rome, GA for our weekly
cattle auction. We remained at that location for 8 1/2 years. As our business and reputation grew, we saw the need to expand.
Our dream was to build the most modern marketing facility in the
state of Georgia. We desired to build a facility that would serve
the needs of the cattle industry and draw customers from the tri-state
area. We decided to locate the facility near I-75 to provide
convenient access to everyone.

|
In
the Beginning
After consolidating our innovative ideas, we constructed a 24,000 square foot facility
in 1995.
Due to the demands of the area market, we
added 12,000 square feet in 1997 and 18,000 square feet in 2000 for
a total of 54,000 square feet. In
addition to the 54,000 square feet of holding pens, we also
added an additional 20 acres of grass holding lots adjacent to the facility.
Our holding pens are made of iron pipes and WW panels. The barn is
built with a high ceiling, so that air can easily flow through the facility
to aid in the cooling of the livestock in the humid climate. Fans are
installed to facilitate in the cooling process. All livestock have
free access to clean hay and water.

Our
Philosophy
We
believe in and follow the highest standards for conducting business.
We also consider animal health and well-being vitally important to the cattle
industry. We have continually emphasized the importance of health programs
for livestock. We encourage our patrons to maintain a health program
so they can remain competitive in the industry. As a business, we
follow all state and federal regulations. USDA officials
are on-site for the weekly auction to ensure that all regulations are
followed appropriately.

Our
Goal
We
want Calhoun Stockyard to be a nice, personable business that you will
want to come back to again and again.
We work for the benefits of our customers and for the livestock industry.
We have added certain innovations that make Calhoun Stockyard unique and set it
apart from other livestock facilities. |
